Watercooled judging....everybody needs feedback...so don't take this too personal!
First off I want to say I liked the show. It was a good turnout despite the poor early weather. I will attend next year.
I was there, not showing, but I saw who was judging and who was being judged. Not only were none of my friends talked too (who were showing)...but the criteria was not, imo, great. These are just my opinions and observations and I know a lot of the people I talked to felt the same way about what's below.
1) Please use watercooled enthusiasts to judge the h20 cars.
2) Please ask the owners questions about how long they've owned the car, what mods they have, any special mods most might not notice etc! Alot of h20 guys will have mods %99 of people might overlook. For instance I have a friend who took the lower vents off a jetta gli bumper and plastic welded them into his 20th Gti bumper. Not one judge would have recognized that at this show unless they talked to the owner.
3) Please don't use a mirror to look at the undercarriage. If there is a tie I can see the point...but most newer cars don't have rust. I can see you using the undercarriage part on air-cooled because they are old and will / do have rust if not properly cared for...but it's just silly with these newer cars. A lot of major h2o show's I've been too don't even incorporate that into the show. Btw...how can you look at the undercarriage of a car but not even notice the little interior / exterior mods the cars had?
4) So is mostly stock > cleanly modded? For example...if two 2005 cars are neck and neck for first place, both are clean and both are modded tastefully....but one more so than the other....how does the mostly stock car win? These are car show's not car lots. You can't use logic like "It's got staggered wheels but it's fwd...I hate it!" logic...that's the vw scene. And that is why I said above you need h2O enthusiasts judging.
